This class is based on the USCCA curriculum with a focus on rules specific to North Carolina. We will break this class into 2 classroom sessions and time at the range. Day 1 - Firearms fundamentals and safety 10/26 from 1:30 to 7pm Firearms safety Types of firearms and ammunition Situational awareness Day 2 – NC laws regarding carrying a concealed handgun 11/2 from 1:30 to 4:00 Review of the applicable NC state laws Discussion of self-defense scenarios and their aftermath Day 2 - Range Day – Live fire session (30 minute drive from CSDKM to Eagle 1) 4:30-6pm Students will demonstrate safe firearms handling Ability to engage a target at 3, 5 and 7 yards The cost for both of the classroom sessions is $75. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL FEE OF $22 for the range session which will be paid directly to the range operator the day of (cash or card payment available). The location is Eagle 1: 4410 Craftsman Dr, Raleigh, NC 27609. This class is open to everyone including non-CSDKM students. To receive your certification to become eligible for your NC permit, the student must: Attend both sessions Pass a written test Attend a range session and show safe firearm handling and ability to engage a target at 2, 5, and 7 yards. The classroom session is 8 hours in length and covers the following: Firearm safety (fundamental safety rules; dealing with children in the house; etc.). Types of handguns – components; operation & pros/cons of each type. Methods of carry & concealment. Firearm operation – deploying, presenting, and firing the handgun (including sight picture, sight alignment, trigger control). Firearm cleaning & maintenance. Permit application process. Laws regarding concealed carry of handguns (where handguns may legally be carried, dealing with law enforcement while carrying a firearm, etc.). Laws regarding use of force in North Carolina (escalation of force; use of deadly force). State-to-state reciprocity/travelling with a handgun. What to do if you are involved in a self-defense shooting. Following the classroom portion, there will be a shooting qualification at Eagle 1. At the end of the course, all passing students will receive a certificate of completion which must be presented to the sheriff’s department when applying for the concealed-carry permit. The process for applying for the permit will be covered during the class.
